Clinical Microbiology

Clinical microbiology focuses on the isolation and characterization of infectious organisms in order to manage and treat them in patients. Infections can be caused by bacteria, fungi, viruses, and parasites. Future problems involving infectious microorganisms, such as bioterrorist agents and new infections, will demand additional testing standards, more rapid diagnosis, and better flexibility.
